Gary DeBerry, Sr. is a bassist, composer, producer, songwriter. His first professional group was Creative Funk located in Jamaica, Queens, NY. The first local hit was “Ready Made Family”, followed by “Moving World” and other funk based songs that took them to the Apollo Theater several times. These songs are still in publication today. DeBerry's main instruments are the four-, five-, and six-string basses along with the double bass. His secondary instrument is piano, which he studied from grade school through college. His productions are on Pro tools that he uses as his DAW. He's had the pleasure of playing with many jazz, funk, gospel, classical, R&B and Pop musicians. To name a few recording artists: pianist, Ray McKinley; flutist, Bobbie Humphry; drummer/producer, Nornan Connors, and the late Stanley Turrentine. He's also played Cabaret at the Concord Hotel in Monticello, NY and in club date bands with both Steven Scott Orchestras and Total Entertainment Orchestras based in NY. His band First Class included his wife, pianist Barbara DeBerry, his brother, drummer Charles Dickens Jr., and his daughter, vocalist Yolanda DeBerry. He is also affiliated with SAG-AFTRA, having done several film projects as an actor.

Gary's publishing company, Galanda Music Publishing, LLC, boasts a diverse blend of music now being played on several music platforms. He feels that it's essential to use the gifts God has graced him with.
